The boards were a little quieter this week, as only 14 of our 23 registered teams made it out to play, marking a record-low turnout for the season. We are aware that duplicate matchups were inadvertently included in the schedule, and we appreciate everyone’s understanding as the system adjusted to the smaller field.
Despite the lighter crowd, the night was filled with energy, friendly competition, and moments that reminded us why this league is more than just a game. The warm October air felt almost out of place after the recent chill, but it gave everyone a welcome reprieve heading into the final stretch of the season.
Missing from the action were Shit My Bad, Throwgo Baggins, Fairview Chiropractic and Wellness, LLC, The Courne Identity, Baggin Blondes, Lucky Sacks, Tree Surgeons, MoneyBagz, and Hula Girls.
In Memory of Rhonda Welcer
This week, our cornhole family experienced a tremendous loss. We mourn the passing of Rhonda Welcer, one-half of the beloved Baggin’ Blondes. Rhonda brought light, laughter, and warmth to every night she played, and her joy for the game was infectious.
Her daughter, who is also her teammate, and her other daughter and son-in-law from Fairview Chiropractic and Wellness, LLC, have been part of this league from the start, embodying the spirit of community that makes it special. Rhonda’s presence will be deeply missed, and her impact will live on in the friendships and memories shared across these boards.
Our thoughts and hearts are with her family, friends, and teammates.
Corn-inthians 13 Break Into the Top 10
There wasn’t much movement across the leaderboard this week, but one team made a statement. Corn-inthians 13 broke into the top 10, knocking Throwgo Baggins out of their spot after going undefeated. Impressively, they were the only team outside the top three to post a perfect record.
Their consistency was unmatched. Two of their four wins were decided by double digits, while another was just under the 15-point blowout mark. With that kind of focus, they’ve proven they’re ready for the championship push.
Big Wins and Big Misses
Extremes defined Week 8. Not a single team finished with a 2–2 record. The night was marked by lopsided matchups, with 64% of games ending in margins of 15 points or more. Only four matches came within single digits, with the closest decided by five points.
It was one of those weeks where several teams said, “We played great,” yet still lost by a wide margin. That’s how tight this league has become, where one round can turn a close game into a blowout.
Top 6 Hold Their Ground
While the rest of the league shuffled slightly, the top six teams remained steadfast. With Cornflakes, BagStreet Boys, and 4 Bags 1 Hole: One Last Ride leading the charge, the title race remains wide open. Every one of these squads has shown championship-level talent, but all it takes is one off night for the rankings to shift.
As we head into the final Thursday and Championship Sunday, there’s no clear favorite. It’s anyone’s trophy to claim.
A Halloween to Remember
We hope everyone had a fantastic Halloween and was able to attend the 70th Annual Mays Landing Halloween Parade. The turnout was incredible, and seeing so many familiar faces from the league celebrating together reminded us what makes this community special.
Championship Week Is Here
Week 9 marks the final Thursday night of the season, followed by the Championship on Sunday, November 9th at 3 PM. We’ll have all-day happy hour at Freddy J’s Bar & Kitchen to celebrate the end of an unforgettable season.
Apologies to our non-Eagles fans, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on Monday night. Between the final league games and football season in full swing, there’s plenty to enjoy together.
This week will also be the last with four scheduled games per team, with the championship guaranteeing at least three and up to eight games total under the new format. Keep your arms warm because Sunday will test your endurance.
Fuel Up for the Finish
As always, Freddy J’s Bar & Kitchen kept the league fueled with $1 wings and $2 Yuenglings. The Fall Menu is live, featuring the Chicken Caesar Wrap, Sweet Heat Burger, and Short Rib Loco Moco Bowl, perfect for a post-match bite or pregame meal.

Every toss this week and every point on Sunday will matter. The weather may be warmer, but things are about to heat up even more on the boards.
