Week 10 Championship Recap – Spring 2024

May 21, 2024 by Grant Kneble

As we close the chapter on the Spring 2024 Mays Landing Cornhole League season, it’s time to reflect on a season brimming with excitement, camaraderie, and unforgettable moments. This season, we had 44 teams sign up, and by the end, 38 teams were actively competing, making it a testament to the growing love for cornhole in our community.

A Season of Firsts

This season marked several firsts for our league. We introduced the airmail challenge, adding an extra layer of excitement and engagement. Although no one landed the elusive tosses, the challenge was a success in another way—we raised and donated $1,000 to the Mays Landing Food Pantry, demonstrating the spirit of giving that defines our community.

Our playoff format saw teams split into two groups, battling it out for two weeks before entering a double-elimination bracket tournament. This new format added an extra layer of strategy and competition, keeping everyone on their toes. Despite the unpredictable weather ranging from three straight weeks of rain to beautifully sunny, cold, dreary days, the competition remained fierce and spirited.

Playoff Highlights and Championship Standings

Bracket A showcased top-tier talent. Crackle & Pop dominated the field, taking the top spot, while DatCouple and Jersey Cartel secured second and third place, respectively. In Bracket B, My Ball Zach Ertz emerged victorious, followed by KC Rockers and Galloway Greenheads.

  1. Crackle & Pop
  2. DatCouple
  3. Jersey Cartel

Bracket B Standings:

The ultimate showdown between the winners of each bracket culminated in Crackle & Pop claiming the championship title, showcasing their skill and determination. Their journey to the top was marked by thrilling matches and unwavering focus, earning them well-deserved recognition as the season’s champions.

Community and Camaraderie

This season wasn’t just about the competition and building and strengthening our community bonds. Despite no successful tosses, introducing the airmail challenge brought us together to support a great cause. The $1,000 raised for the Mays Landing Food Pantry is a testament to our collective generosity and community spirit.

Weathering the Storms

The season’s weather was as unpredictable as some of the match outcomes. We faced three consecutive weeks of rain, which tested our resilience and adaptability. Yet, we also enjoyed beautiful sunny days that reminded us why we love playing cornhole outdoors, even when the cold and dreary weather made appearances. Each weather challenge brought out the best in our community as we adapted and continued to play with enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
