Week 8 Recap – Spring 2025

May 14, 2025 by Grant Kneble

Week 8 marked the exciting start of the Spring 2025 Playoffs for the Mays Landing Cornhole League. The stakes have never been higher, and the competitive spirit was at an all-time peak. With every throw carrying significant playoff implications, teams arrived with sharpened focus and high energy, setting the stage for a thrilling evening.

We enjoyed perfect weather conditions that complemented the fierce competition. 39 teams stepped onto the boards, bringing playoff intensity from the first toss. Unfortunately, we missed seeing Corny (once again), Husk and a Half, and Toss & Pray, but we look forward to seeing them return and make their mark in the coming games.

Bracket Highlights and Notable Performances

In the highly competitive A Bracket, three teams went undefeated to set the tone for their playoff campaigns: Sweetwater Slingers, Red BarN’s Finest, and Mullicans. Matches in the A Bracket were intense and closely contested, reflecting the high caliber of teams battling for a coveted championship spot.

The B Bracket featured fast-paced action, with four teams emerging undefeated: Master Baggers, Baggin Blondes, Not Responsibles, and Your Hole Is My Goal. The speed and agility these teams demonstrated were impressive, making each match a quick but fierce battle.

Our reigning champions faced mixed results in their first playoff week. Landi Pools & Games, the reigning A Bracket champions, started their playoff run with a solid 2–2 record, showing their resilience in a tough field. Conversely, the reigning B Bracket champions, Broad Street Baggers, had a challenging start at 0–4 and will need a strong recovery next week.

Tight Standings and Critical Playoff Implications

The B Bracket standings are incredibly tight, with only one point separating first and second place, and just three points between second and third. Every upcoming game is critical as teams fight for the best possible seeding heading into Championship Sunday.

Speaking of Championship Sunday, playoff positioning carries key advantages:

  • In the A Bracket, the top two teams will enjoy a bye, awaiting outcomes from matchups between seeds 15 vs. 18 and 16 vs. 17.
  • In the B Bracket, the top eight teams earn a valuable bye, while the remaining teams battle it out in preliminary rounds.

Looking Ahead: Week 9 and the Championship Finale

Next Thursday, Week 9, marks our final regular evening of play this season and the last guaranteed night of four games. Championship Sunday (Week 10) features a double-elimination format, meaning some teams could play as few as two games. The stakes are high—every throw could make or break championship dreams!
