Week 3 Recap – Spring 2026

April 12, 2026 by Grant Kneble

Warm start, cold finish

The night started like summer. By Round 3 it felt like fall. Week 3 of the Spring 2026 Mays Landing Cornhole League brought 19 of 23 registered teams out to the lot behind Kneble’s Auto, and the ones who showed up early in t-shirts were zipping up hoodies by the time the final bags landed.

The vibes were right from the jump. League t-shirts got distributed, lawn chairs were out, buckets of beer lined the courts, and six boards were running full games from 7 PM to just after 8:50. The scores leaned heavy again after Week 2’s weather compressed things. More on that below.

Who we missed

Corndoggs, Corny Bastards, Hole Patrol, and Mother Shuckers all sat out Week 3. Each picks up an 0-4 record for the week. Hole Patrol still hasn’t made an appearance this season. If you’re out there, we’ve got a spot and a shirt waiting for you. Hope to see everyone next Thursday.

Top 3 Teams of the Week

1. DEEZ NUTS (4-0, 92 points, +64 differential) — Ray and Brandon came out angry after that Week 2 loss to Splash Bros. and took it out on everybody. Shut out Back to Black 25-0 in the opener, then beat These Effin’ Guys 23-16 in the game that mattered most. Ninety-two points in four games. Nobody scored more this week.

2. Splash Bros. (4-0, 88 points, +80 differential) — Dutty was one bro short. Charles couldn’t make it, so Dutty ran the table solo. Four wins, 80-point differential, and the biggest gap between points scored and points allowed of anyone in the field. Twelve and oh on the season. Nobody’s done that in nine seasons of this league without the other teams starting to notice. More on the pressure below.

3. Born Fish (4-0, 88 points, +42 differential) — The comeback story of the week. Chas and Mary sat out Week 2 and dropped from first to eleventh in the cumulative standings without throwing a bag. This week they showed up and reminded everyone why they were number one after opening night. Four wins, including a 23-20 nail-biter against Air Mail that was the closest game of the entire night.

Week 3 match summaries

Of 38 games, 22 ended with margins of 15 points or more. That’s 58%. Six shutouts. Only two games all night finished within five points. Week 1 was 69% blowouts, Week 2 dropped to 47% on the wet boards, and now we’re climbing back. The top teams are separating from the pack.

Splash Bros. didn’t just go 4-0 solo. Charles beat Your Hole is My Goal 21-4, Baggin Dragons 22-1, BagStreet Boys 21-1, and Back to Black 24-2. Eight total points allowed across four games, one person on the boards. That’s a statement. Your Hole is My Goal and BagStreet Boys are both top-five cumulative teams and neither could put up more than four points against him.

The target on Splash Bros. is getting bigger every week. Being undefeated in this league draws attention. In nine seasons, we’ve only had one team go through an entire season and championship without losing: Crackle & Pop in Fall 2025. Every other top team eventually drops one. Dutty can feel it. The other teams want to be the ones who hand him his first L. That’s how it works in a parking lot league. You don’t stay perfect without people gunning for you.

DEEZ NUTS responded to last week’s loss like a team with something to prove. Ray and Brandon shut out Back to Black 25-0 in Round 1, put up 24 on Air Mail, then beat We thought the sign said Corndogs 23-5 and closed with 21-7 over Ginger ash tornado. The Round 2 matchup against These Effin’ Guys was the one everyone was watching. DEEZ NUTS 23, These Effin’ Guys 16. Tough nut to crack.

Born Fish looked like they never left. Chas and Mary beat Fairways 21-11, Department of Bagriculture 23-14, Air Mail 23-20, and We thought the sign said Corndogs 21-1. That Air Mail game was the game of the night. Three-point margin. Ryan and Brandon were right there. Born Fish climbed from 11th back to 7th in the cumulative standings in one week. Fish are back in the water.

Fairways had their best week of the season. Ray and Gary lost the opener to Born Fish 11-21 but then ran the table. Beat Lucky Sacks 23-16, blanked Natural Corn Killers 29-6, and closed with 26-6 over Air Mail. Eighty-nine points is more than any team in the league this week except DEEZ NUTS. Fairways climbed from 10th to 8th in the cumulative standings.

These Effin’ Guys opened with a 27-0 shutout of Ginger ash tornado. Mike and Bill are still one of the scariest draws in the league. The loss to DEEZ NUTS was competitive at 16-23, and they closed with wins over Back to Black (21-6) and Nuthin Butt Holes (21-1). At 10-2 on the season they’re in the thick of it.

BagStreet Boys came in riding a seven-game win streak. Anthony and Brian won three more, beating Baggin Dragons 22-2, Your Hole is My Goal 21-6, and The Tossin’ Turtles 21-0. Then they drew Splash Bros. in Round 3 and scored one point. One. After the most dominant Week 2 performance in the field, that 1-21 loss is the kind of game that sits with you. BagStreet Boys dropped from 2nd to 4th in the cumulative standings.

Lucky Sacks had a revelation this week. Jack finally showed up. After two weeks of Justin running the show solo, the other half of Lucky Sacks materialized on the boards. We’ve been wondering since Week 1. Justin and Jack went 2-2 together, beating We thought the sign said Corndogs 22-0 and Nuthin Butt Holes 22-0 while dropping two to Fairways and Barnyard Baggers. The full squad is here. Now we see what they can do.

Air Mail split the night 2-2 with the kind of schedule that doesn’t give you a break. Ryan and Brandon opened with a 27-11 win over Natural Corn Killers and closed with a 24-0 shutout of The Tossin’ Turtles. In between, they lost 20-23 to Born Fish in the closest game of the night, and 6-26 to Fairways. Special delivery on two courts, return to sender on the other two.

Your Hole is My Goal went 2-2 after three straight weeks in the top five. Greg and Mark lost to Splash Bros. 4-21 and BagStreet Boys 6-21 before finding the target with wins over Department of Bagriculture (21-11) and Natural Corn Killers (21-7). Two brutal draws in the first half. Still at 9-3 and still fifth overall.

Ginger ash tornado got torched by These Effin’ Guys 0-27 in the opener and the night never really settled. Paul and Ashley picked up a 21-11 win over Shuck Your Cornhole, dropped one 13-21 to Nuthin Butt Holes, then lost the closer to DEEZ NUTS 7-21. One win, three losses, and a slide to 5-7 on the season. The middle of the pack is crowded and Ginger ash tornado is going to have to claw their way back in.

Barnyard Baggers flipped their script again. Krista and Haylee lost two to start the night, then won two to close it, including a 21-10 win over Lucky Sacks and a 25-4 handling of Shuck Your Cornhole. The 0-2 to 2-2 rally is becoming their signature move. They did the same thing in Week 2.

Department of Bagriculture went 2-2 with wins over Barnyard Baggers (21-14) and Baggin Dragons (24-16). Justin E. keeps filing competitive scores. Two losses to Born Fish and Your Hole is My Goal aren’t anything to be embarrassed about.

Baggin Dragons had a rough night on paper at 1-3, but the sisters found their moment. Kristen and Jess dropped three (2-22 to BagStreet Boys, 1-22 to Splash Bros., 16-24 to Department of Bagriculture) before putting up 30 points on Barnyard Baggers in Round 3. Thirty. That’s the highest single-game score by any team all night. The lows were low but that one round showed what they’re capable of when it clicks.

Two winless teams drew each other in Round 2 and somebody had to get off the mark. Shuck Your Cornhole and We thought the sign said Corndogs were both 0-8 on the season heading into that game. Jim and Jen took it 21-13 for their first win of the Spring 2026 season. Every team in this league remembers their first. We thought the sign said Corndogs are still looking for theirs at 0-12.

Natural Corn Killers picked up their second win of the season by beating Shuck Your Cornhole 21-2 in the opener. Tim and Nikki went 1-3 on the night, but that win keeps them climbing. Nuthin Butt Holes made it a whole new story. Meta and Evan held off The Tossin’ Turtles 23-19 for the second-closest game of the night, then flipped the script on Ginger ash tornado 21-13 for a second win. After an 0-8 start, a 2-2 week feels like finding the range.

Back to Black went 1-3 with the one win coming against The Tossin’ Turtles 24-7. Melissa and Tim drew DEEZ NUTS (0-25 shutout), These Effin’ Guys (6-21), and Splash Bros. (2-24) for their other three games. That’s a murderer’s row. The Tossin’ Turtles went 0-4 with two shutouts, slipping back after getting their first win in Week 2. Slow and steady took a step back this week.

Freddy J’s specials

Dollar wings and two-dollar Yuenglings every Thursday at Freddy J’s Bar and Kitchen. Buckets of High Noon, Stateside, Surfside, and beer are all on the menu if you want something to bring out to the boards between rounds. The kitchen runs the full menu on Thursdays, so come early and eat before games start.

Games wrapped around 9 and Freddy J’s late-night happy hour kicked in right after. Half the league was inside at the bar before the last bags got picked up, eating wings and arguing about whether Splash Bros. can actually go undefeated or if someone’s going to catch them. That’s the Thursday routine. Play outside, argue inside.
